Apply for Export Development Programme

What is EDP?

In 2007, BEDIA launched an Export Development Programme. This is a programme with strategic options that can be used to boost a number of exporters, export volumes and returns through capacity building initiatives. Thus, the EDP is targeted at Botswana based manufacturing companies that have the capacity or potential to export. The programme aims to assist manufacturers compete both in regional and international markets.

Objective

The objective of the programme is to hone the knowledge and skills of both exporters and would-be exporters in the area of export marketing and promotion techniques by recommending and providing the necessary support interventions required for ultimate export transaction.

Exporter Training

The main focus of the EDP is delivering export training to selected businesses that show commitment towards entering the export market, the programme is also aimed at those companies who want to diversify their existing export markets A rigorous selection criterion by BEDIA or its appointed agent will be undertaken to ensure that only qualifying companies in terms of need and commitment enter the programme. The selection criterion entails an organization's evaluation of its readiness to export. Training will also be extended to eligible local Business Support Organizations including traders representing manufacturers of local products only.

BEDIA will offer a multilevel approach to exporter development that meets the needs of various businesses, therefore, training is offered according to the needs assessment of the participating company in the areas of:

  • Product selection for export
  • Product development
  • Market development
  • Further technical or training assistance requirements
  • General export coaching
  • Evaluation workshops

Benefits

It is expected that at end of the training, participants be equipped with:

  • knowledge of the export cycle and business practices in the international arena
  • improved marketing intelligence and trade promotion techniques
  • knowledge on how to carry out independent market research
  • knowledge on how to design, write, and implement an Export marketing Plan
  • knowledge and experience that can be shared with exporters within the same sector
  • motivation to enhance export activities.
