India Office

Ever since diplomatic relations were established in 1966, India and Botswana have shared a friendly and cordial relationship that has ever since seen the continued furthering of ties year after year.

Botswana has a number of signed agreements with India and among them is

  • A Trade Agreement that was signed between the two countries granting each other Most-favoured Nation status in accordance with the World Trade Organisation provisions.

  •  A General Cooperation Agreement which intendsto promote an intensify bilateral relations in their respective countries in the spirit of partnership with a view to effecting concrete cooperation in the economic, educational, technical,human resource development (training), social, legal, political, information an communications technologies and cultural fields.

  • A Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement which meant to stimulate trade between the two countries by mitigating double taxation exposure for cross border investments, trade and technology transfer between the two countries.

Botswana-India Trade & Economic Outlook

The quantity of trade and merchandise between Botswana and India over the years has grown.  There has been a steady growth especially in the service sector.

The primary exports of Botswana to India are scrap aluminium,Iron amd steel in addition to a number of one-off products like footwear.

The Double Tax Avoidance Agreement has provided a framework for enhanced business ties between the two countries .  It has led to increased interest about investment opportunities in Botswana.

The establishment of the BEDIA office in India is to bring the services of the organization closer to companies that are interested in doing business in Botswana, more especially to disseminate information about business opportunities that exist in Botswana. The office provides advice and encourages Indian based investors to explore investment opportunities and invest in Botswana
